Composite Boat Builder / Technician / Laminators – Flow Kayaks, Christchurch

Job type: Full time, permanent

The role will cover all manufacturing aspects of building racing kayaks and paddles, and carrying out repairs and refurbishment. You will be working with composite materials, primarily Kevlar and Carbon, with some fibreglass and some hybrid materials. We use polyester resins but also consider epoxy.

Our manufacturing process is manual for all composite parts, although we are considering techniques that will reduce some manual processes.

The role requires you to undertake any or all manufacturing processes including: gel coat spraying; layup and laminating; manufacture of parts (e.g. rudder, footplates, paddle blades); and assembly of all components into the finished item.

The kayaks are “precision-made” and require high attention to detail and quality at each stage of the process.

You will be joining a small team of two highly qualified and skilled technicians, as well as one trainee. Two others in the business look after overall management, finance, and administration.
